My name is Elisa Trovato and I love making Etna wines.

My way has become a remarkable arc, it set out on a unique journey of true dedication to the winemaking women who came before me. They deeply knew this volcanic land’s black and warm nature, and I did too.

The Etna region’s soil is dark and warm, an unusual terroir to see and work.
Etna is a volcano, the largest in Europe, but I figure it as a rumbling giant that transforms every day the land of Sicily from north to south, from Taormina to Syracuse and beyond.

Il Vulcano di Elisa is a dedication to women winemakers, a love letter to that terroir and two favourite grapes of the region: Carricante and Nerello Mascalese. Both are wonderful varietals that drink in the organically dry-farmed nutrients that the legendary volcanic soil is known for.

il Vulcano di Elisa / Carricante

The Bianco is hand-picked and de-stemmed, followed by a 72-hour cold soak maceration and a 15-day alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel. Aging takes place in steel as well.

il Vulcano di Elisa / Nerello Mascalese

The Rosso is hand-picked, and de-stemmed, with a 15-day maceration and a 15-day fermentation. Secondary malolactic fermentation is followed by eight months of aging in used oak barrels.
Both wines are produced naturally, using only the yeast found on the grape’s skins.

The results are exquisitely crafted, low-intervention wines that draw from the world-class terroir that is Mount Etna.
